Heavy Element Summer Research Fellowship
The Heavy Element Summer Research Fellowship is a new DOE funded program beginning in summer 2025 which aims to immerse students in cutting-edge research focused at the intersection of heavy element chemistry and quantum information science.
Program Highlights
- 10-Week Summer Program - Begins May 27th and ends August 1st
- Support - A stipend of $6000, on-campus housing, an allowance for incidental expenses, and round trip travel to/from Iowa City are all provided
- Professional Development - Enrichment activities include opportunities to attend seminars and workshops as well as forums for presenting results generated during the summer fellowship program

- f-Element Chemistry
- Crystal Growth and Characterization
- Vibrational and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopies
Program Eligibility
- US Citizens or Permanent Residents who have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies and have not yet received their bachelor's degree are eligible to apply. We welcome applicants who are majoring in chemistry as well as any other natural or physical science that are interested in inorganic chemistry. Students who do not have previous research experience, who are traditionally underrepresented in STEM, and/or may have limited access to research opportunities at their home institutions are particularly encouraged to apply.
The application deadline is March 7th and notice of acceptance will be sent by April 1st.
